Darlala Motel

The Darlala Motel is an economic development project of the Yugul Mangi Development Aboriginal Corporation under the direction of the leaders of the
seven clans of Ngukurr. It forms part of the Yugul Mangi people’s aspirations to move away from government and welfare dependency. As guests you will be supporting the Yugul Mangi people’s aspirations.
As an Indigenous community run accommodation motel, we ask all visitors to respect our country, place, motel rooms , culture and people. The staff of the motel are residents and will go out of their way to ensure you have a wonderful experience, however, we ask that you remember where you are, that the motel is run by the community, to respect the cultural differences and to leave your
western expectations and demands behind.
The Darlala Motel is nestled on top of a ridge in Ngukurr, which offers spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. This picturesque location
provides a magnificent sunset vista. The Darlala Motel has 22 rooms of a high standard of cleanliness and comfort.
this includes 18 Standard Queen Rooms and 4 Twin Share Rooms with King Single Beds. Each room accommodates a maximum of 2 adults.


YMD Tenancy Office
The YMD Tenancy Office supports community members understand their roles, rights and responsibilities as a tenant. The Community Housing Officer (CHO) works with government agencies and all relevant stakeholders to assist households in making well informed decisions regarding their tenancy agreements. We assist with understanding and completion of relevant paperwork, we support through culturally appropriate educational information, reporting maintenance requirements, visitor management, responsible pet ownership and appropriate referrals to external support agencies.

Cultural Governance
Yugulmangi Development Aboriginal Corporation (YMD or YMDAC for short) is governed by a Board comprised of two members from each clan. The Board meets regularly to oversight and regulate all aspects of YMD.
YMD’s social programs are guided by the StrongbalaPipul WanbalaBois Komiti, the membership of which is a subset of the Board.
YMD also employs two Cultural Governance Officers, Owen Turner and Daphne Daniels, who provide operational and strategic advice and support to staff regarding cultural, community and operational issues as they arise.

Youth, Family and Healing
Stronger Communities for Children and Youth Diversion supports children and young people in Ngukurr and Minyerri to participate in positive activities and learning opportunities.
The Cultural School Holiday Program provides children and young people in Ngukurr with opportunities to participate in bush and other cultural activities with senior community members.
The Education Engagement and Attainment Initiatives Program (commenced in March 2024) will:

Support families, children, young people and the community to engage with, participate in and benefit from the Ngukurr school.

Support the Ngukurr school to be a cultural, positive, welcoming and respectful place that children, young people and their families want to attend, participate in and contribute to.

Albumbat Biginini En Femilimob Program
Providing support to local families who are caring for children aged 0-18 years. Family Support Workers (local, Kriol speaking) work intensively with the whole family (children and those involved in their care) to ensure they can be strong together in growing up their children in a safe environment.
Families are valued as the experts of their situation and best placed to care for their children. Family Support Workers can work with families to strengthen their parenting skills by providing information and education, referrals to other services, practice and support in learning new skills, advocacy and understanding systems (e.g. housing, legal, medical).
Support is time limited (from around 3-12 months) but is flexible depending on each family’s needs

Connected Beginnings
Providing support to services who children aged 0-5, and pregnant women.
Connecting children to the right services, connecting the existing services to each other and creating new programs as led by the community.
Supporting improved health and learning experiences for all children in Ngukurr to prepare them for school.
